Beaver dam halts train service in Denmark

An unusual incident occurred in Denmark: the natural instinct of a beaver — building a dam — led to a week-long suspension of railway traffic. This situation happened on the line between the cities of Aulum and Struer, reported DR.

According to the information, the beaver built a dam in a stream under the bridge. As a result, the water flow changed, and the foundation of the railway bridge weakened. This made train movement dangerous and caused the suspension of service starting September 17.

Banedanmark blamed the beaver

The company Banedanmark, responsible for the state railway network, officially announced that “the responsibility lies with the beaver” for the inconveniences caused to passengers. Their statement said that the beaver-built dam altered the water flow, weakening the foundation of the bridge.

The company emphasized that such cases are very rare in nature. Beaver dams often have a positive impact on maintaining ecological balance. However, in this case, the natural process posed a serious threat to railway infrastructure.

Passengers transferred to buses

Until the railway service is restored, special buses were arranged for passengers. According to Banedanmark, repair and restoration work is expected to last at least until the evening of Sunday, September 21. By that time, train traffic is expected to be fully restored.

Officials stressed that such situations, where nature collides with infrastructure, will require caution in the future as well. Because while beavers continue their natural way of life, people must protect their infrastructure.
