Mass protests in the Philippines erupted due to a controversial corruption scandal. Thousands of people began destroying government buildings due to reports of the disappearance of funds allocated to them and, worst of all, the lack of assistance to those affected by the floods.
Demonstrators, students, and the public did not want to remain silent about the government's actions and went out into the streets, making noise, burning car tires, and clashing with stones and bottles. As a result of the clashes, more than 40 police officers were injured, and 17 people were detained.
The khokimiyat said that the Minister of Finance had previously announced these cases of corruption. According to him, $17.6 billion was lost from the budget, and 70% of infrastructure funds were not allocated to achieve the intended goals.
