In Nepal, Indonesia, and the Philippines, Gen Z representatives have been holding anti-corruption protests in recent months. In Kathmandu, hundreds of young people gathered in front of the parliament, criticizing politicians and their children for their wealth. As a result, some ministries were set on fire, and the prime minister resigned.
In Indonesia and the Philippines, young people also protested against government financial privileges and social injustice. They organized rapid protests using social media and mobile apps.
However, some protests turned violent. In Nepal, 70 people died, and in Indonesia, 10 died; buildings and businesses were damaged. Governments condemned the protests but were forced to accept some demands partially.
Experts warn that online initiatives do not guarantee long-term social change. Learning from past mistakes, young people now aim to act more systematically and democratically.
