In the central part of China, in Shancheng County, on the morning of September 29, a major industrial tragedy occurred, drawing wide attention. It was reported that at the Hexin Chemical plant, a leak from a sulfuric acid storage tank led to the poisoning of several workers and caused fatalities. This was reported by Xinhua News.
According to preliminary data from specialists, the acid entered the plant’s rainwater collection system. There, it reacted with hydrogen sulfide, triggering a dangerous chemical process. As a result, toxic fumes with strong effects spread into the air and were inhaled by the workers.
Official information states that five workers died at the scene. One worker sustained serious injuries, and his condition is assessed by doctors as critical. Two other employees suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital, with their condition reported as stable.
According to the Shancheng County Emergency Management Department, all employees were evacuated from the plant at the time of the incident. A special commission is currently conducting an investigation into the causes of the event.
Environmentalists and safety experts emphasize that such tragedies involving hazardous substances pose a serious threat not only to the lives of workers but also to the environment. Therefore, they once again stressed the need for strict adherence to safety rules and the strengthening of preventive measures at enterprises where chemicals are stored.
The public is demanding an impartial and thorough investigation of the incident and that all responsible individuals be held accountable.
