Japan demands China immediately stop illegal research

The Japanese government accused China of conducting illegal research activities in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the East China Sea, near the Amami Islands, and lodged an official protest.

This was announced at a press conference by Yoshimasa Hayashi, Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan. According to him, through diplomatic channels, the Chinese government was expressed deep regret and strong protest, and was demanded to immediately stop this unlawful research activity.

According to reports, on September 28 and 30, the Japan Coast Guard observed a Chinese oceanographic vessel near the Amami Islands that lowered an object resembling a pipe into the water. After that, Japanese patrol ships used loudspeakers to demand the vessel leave the EEZ.

The Japanese government assessed this incident as a violation of law and a threat to national security, demanding China refrain from such actions in the future.
