A devastating natural disaster has flooded thousands of homes in Vietnam.

Eight people were killed and five injured as a result of heavy rain and flooding caused by Hurricane Matmo in Vietnam, Xinhua news agency reported.

According to the local agency for combating natural disasters, more than 15,700 houses were flooded, and more than 400 houses were damaged. Additionally, 14.6 thousand hectares of rice and other agricultural land were affected by the mudflow.

As a result of the floods, more than 97 thousand head of livestock and poultry died. Flooding was recorded in 602 locations in the northern and central mountainous regions. Due to landslides, traffic is restricted. Vietnamese Prime Minister Fam Minh Trin issued an emergency directive on the protection of the population.
