According to Reuters, between 2019 and 2021, the Bashar al-Assad regime secretly relocated mass graves containing thousands of bodies in Syria. This action was carried out with the aim of concealing the crimes committed by the regime.
The graves are located in the Al-Qutaifa area near Damascus, where, since 2012, prisoners and soldiers who died in prisons and military hospitals have been buried. Their bodies were later moved to a desert near the city of Dumaire. According to satellite images, 34 trenches have been identified here.
Former military personnel and drivers testified that the goal was to destroy evidence and hide the traces of the massacre. According to human rights organizations, more than 160,000 people went missing during Assad's regime. For information, on December 8, 2024, Assad's regime was overthrown, and the Assad family received political asylum in Russia.
