Near the city of Raqqa in northern Syria, hundreds of bodies killed during the Assad government’s rule have been discovered. The graves had been hidden under sand for many years.
According to local sources, the area was controlled by government forces during the civil war. Among the discovered remains are men, women, and children.
Experts say this finding once again confirms evidence of human rights violations in Syria. Excavation and identification of the victims are currently underway.
UN representatives stressed the need for an international investigation into the incident.
