Elon Musk is looking for 100,000 people to send to Mars

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk once again spoke about humanity’s greatest dream — the colonization of Mars, reported arstechnica.com. According to him, at least 100,000 volunteers will be needed to achieve this goal.

Musk wrote about this on his X (formerly Twitter) page, urging humanity to prepare for life beyond Earth. He stated that the Starship rocket system is the only platform capable of transporting people to Mars, calling the project “humanity’s greatest step into the future.”

Elon Musk made this comment in response to journalist Eric Berger, who said: “I’m not fully confident in Starship’s success.” Musk agreed with Berger’s remark that Starship is the only spacecraft capable of taking people beyond Earth’s orbit and emphasized that he has no doubts about the project’s success.

“I believe Starship will carry humans to Mars. But reaching there isn’t enough — we must create real living conditions,” Musk wrote.

According to the entrepreneur, at least 100,000 people will be needed to establish an independent colony on Mars. They will become the first founders of a new society, attempting to recreate Earth-like life on another planet.

Musk also noted that, along with people, at least 1 million tons of cargo should be transported from Earth’s orbit to Mars. These include construction materials, energy systems, water supply equipment, and food production technologies.

Within the SpaceX program, hundreds of Starship launches are planned, with the main goal of creating a sustainable environment for human life on Mars.

Elon Musk called this plan “humanity’s survival strategy.” In his opinion, remaining limited to Earth is dangerous — if humanity can establish life on other planets, its future will become more secure.

“We must acknowledge that one day life on Earth could disappear. That’s why Mars may be our potential ‘second home,’” said Musk.

Experts note that Musk’s plan is technically vast and extremely complex, but recent Starship tests by SpaceX have increased the likelihood of making this vision a reality.

A flight to Mars is no longer a fantasy but a scientific plan being realized step by step. For Musk, it’s not just business — it’s a mission to carry humanity’s destiny to other worlds.
