Ukrainian drone cuts gas link between Russia and Kazakhstan
A major gas processing plant in Russia’s Orenburg region stopped operations after a Ukrainian drone strike. As a result, gas intake from Kazakhstan was temporarily suspended, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy reported.

According to regional governor Yevgeny Sontsev, the drone strike caused a fire in one of the plant’s workshops. The fire was quickly extinguished, but production has been completely halted.

The plant also receives gas from Kazakhstan’s Karachaganak field. Therefore, the attack also affected Kazakhstan’s energy system. Gas transmission has not yet been restored.

According to Ukrainian officials, they aim to weaken Moscow’s military budget by targeting Russia’s energy infrastructure. Ukraine says the attack was carried out as part of its “defensive strategy.”

Russia’s Ministry of Defence said that 45 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight, including 12 over Samara, 11 over Saratov, and one over Orenburg region. Officials said there were no casualties.
