An interesting decision was made in Spain on the eve of Halloween to protect animal rights. In the city of Terrassa in the Catalan region, the adoption or keeping of black cats is temporarily prohibited. This was reported by the local animal protection service.
According to the data, every year at the end of October, there is a sharp increase in applications for the adoption of black cats. However, experts emphasize that not all of this is due to love. On the contrary, there are cases where individuals take these animals for ritual ceremonies, decorations, or photoshoots at Halloween parties, and then throw them away.
For this reason, the city administration and animal rights organizations decided to temporarily suspend the process of adopting black cats from October 1 to November 10. This measure aims to protect animals from potential violence and abuse.
According to official data, there are currently more than 10,000 homeless cats in the city of Terrassa, and about a hundred of them are kept in special centers in the city. It was precisely because of the large number of black cats that the issue of their protection was of particular importance.
The city administration announced that this temporary ban will be in effect until November 10, after which the adoption process may be resumed. However, experts emphasize that since similar dangerous trends are observed every year during Halloween, it is likely that such a ban will become a permanent tradition in the future.
Experts urge the public to be cautious and conscientious with animals. According to them, cats are not "accessories" for the holiday, but creatures that require love and care.
