A fuel tanker crashed and exploded in Nigeria

At least 30 people died as a result of the explosion in western Nigeria, and about 40 more were hospitalized with burns of varying severity. The Nation newspaper reported this, citing eyewitnesses.

The incident occurred on a highway in AgaYE-Bida, Niger. According to preliminary investigation data, the fuel tanker crashed, after which some local residents approached it to rob the tanker. Unfortunately, an explosion occurred during this time, and the spilled fuel turned into a large fire.

The chairman of the Nigerian Association of Fuel Tanker Drivers, Faroukh Mohamed Kawa, confirmed the incident, stating that about 30 similar incidents were recorded in Niger state this month alone. He emphasized that these tragedies once again demonstrate the need to warn the population about the dangers associated with fuel carriers.

The investigation into the causes of the explosion is ongoing.
