US President Donald Trump has ordered the resumption of nuclear weapons testing in the country after 30 years. He explained this decision by saying that countries such as Russia and China continue their testing programs. According to Trump, this step is necessary to maintain US defense strength and not fall behind competitors.
The president wrote on social media: “While other countries are testing nuclear weapons, we will also begin testing on an equal basis.” He made this statement ahead of his meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in South Korea.
The US last conducted a nuclear weapons test in 1992 in the state of Nevada. Trump’s decision marks a new stage in US nuclear policy.
The Nevada test site remains under government control. Experts say that if necessary, the site can be prepared again for testing. Trump emphasized that this process should “begin immediately.”
