The food situation in the world is worsening, and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) warns of an increased risk of global famine. According to the organization, up to 318 million people may face hunger or a severe crisis in 2026. This is twice as much as in 2019.
The most difficult aspect is the reduction of funds for humanitarian aid. Therefore, the WFP can provide food to only one-third of those in need. Although it is planned to help 110 million vulnerable people, funding is expected to be less than half of this amount.
Currently, the threat of famine is intensifying in Gaza and Sudan. Conflict, climate change, and economic instability indicate that it will be difficult to improve the situation even in 2026.
WFP President Cindy McCain called on the international community to invest more in anti-hunger solutions.
