NATO has begun exercises to prepare for a tense situation in the Mediterranean

NATO has begun large-scale naval exercises called the "Neptune Strike" in the Mediterranean Sea near the Italian coast. According to CBS News, these exercises are of strategic importance for the alliance and are being conducted to ensure security in the region and in response to escalating geopolitical tensions.

According to reports, Britain's modern HMS Prince of Wales aircraft carrier is participating in the exercises. Twenty-six US F-35 fighter jets are on board. Military personnel from the USA, Great Britain, Poland, Turkey, and a total of about ten other countries are also participating. It is noted that they are conducting exercises on how to act in the event of a possible strike on NATO's eastern flank, as well as protecting critical sea routes, which account for 30% of the world's oil flow.

Alexus Grinkevich, Head of the High Command of the Joint European Forces of NATO, stated that the alliance must be prepared for possible clashes with Russia and China by 2027. In his opinion, such exercises are becoming increasingly important in recent years due to the increase in cases of violations of the airspace of NATO countries.

In particular, on the night of September 10, 2025, the Polish military reported that the country's air border was violated by 21 remotely controlled drones, and Prime Minister Donald Tusk blamed Russia for this. At the same time, Estonia also considered Russia responsible for violating its airspace with three drones this month. The Moscow side denies all accusations.
