The Georgian government is making a significant change to the entry procedure starting January 1, 2026. According to the National Tourism Administration, now every tourist visiting the country is strictly required to have medical insurance.
According to officials, if the new rule is not followed, persons without insurance may not be allowed to cross the border or additional conditions may be established for them.
The implementation of this procedure is aimed, first of all, at strengthening the safety of guests, reducing problems that may arise due to unforeseen medical expenses, and making the tourism infrastructure in the country more economical and sustainable.
Officials emphasized that Georgia is taking an important step in protecting the health of tourists by introducing a medical insurance requirement.
