Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said that for security reasons Israeli forces would not fully withdraw from the Gaza Strip. According to him, there are plans to establish a special unit made up of civilians and military personnel in the area.
Referring to the attack carried out by Hamas on October 7, 2023, Katz said that after those events the issue of fully leaving Gaza was no longer on the agenda. He stressed that Israeli forces would remain in the area to ensure security and prevent similar incidents.
The defence minister also spoke about plans to establish units known as Nahal. These units are intended to prepare civilians for military service and operate on a voluntary basis, and may be deployed in previously evacuated areas.
Israel Katz also spoke at an event in the West Bank, where he announced the launch of a project to build 1,200 housing units. He said the government is focusing on territorial policy and sovereignty issues and will take concrete steps in this direction.
