Penalties for snow leopard hunters in Tajikistan have been strengthened

In Tajikistan, responsibility for hunting snow leopards and related illegal activities has been tightened. The country's parliament introduced corresponding amendments to the Criminal Code. This was reported by the official publication of the parliament - Sadoi People.

According to the new version, Article 232-1 is now called "Hunting, intentional destruction of snow leopards, as well as their illegal acquisition, storage, transfer or sale." Previously, this article covered only cases of hunting and intentional killing.

Now for such violations, a fine of 1200-1800 calculation indices (117-175 million soums) or imprisonment for up to 3 years will be applied. Previously, the fine was limited to 800-1200 calculated indicators (78-117 million soums).

If the crime is committed repeatedly, the punishment becomes even more severe: a fine of 2000-3000 calculated indicators (195-292 million soums) or imprisonment for 4 to 8 years. Also, perpetrators may be deprived of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to 5 years.

At the same time, amendments were made to Article 236 of the Criminal Code, increasing the fine in cases of causing especially large damage to specially protected natural areas to 500 calculated indicators (48.7 million soums).
