Dubai may build the world’s first gold-covered street

In the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, a plan to build the world’s first street covered with gold for tourists and representatives of the jewelry industry has been put up for discussion. The Independent reported this.

It is reported that the “gold street” will become the central part of a newly planned jewelry quarter in Dubai. The project is aimed at strengthening the local jewelry industry, while also attracting more foreign tourists and buyers. The initiative was put forward by the developer company Ithrа Dubai, and the project details are expected to be announced step by step.

Ahmad al-Hajjah, Director General of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, commenting on the plan, emphasized that gold is an inseparable part of Dubai’s culture and trade. According to him, the new initiative reflects not only respect for historical heritage, but also a new interpretation of an era based on creativity and sustainable development.

According to local media, the new jewelry area is planned to host more than 1,000 shops. Along with gold and jewelry, perfumes and cosmetic products are also expected to be sold there. In addition, the construction of six new hotels is planned in the area. It is noted that the quarter will be located near one of Dubai’s oldest traditional markets, the Gold Souk. However, the cost of the project has not yet been disclosed.

Gold for Dubai is not just a precious metal, but an important sector of the city’s economy and a kind of calling card. It is said that approximately 20–25 percent of the world’s gold trade passes through Dubai.

The emirate mainly receives gold in the form of raw material, processes it, and exports it as finished products. It is also noted that the world’s heaviest gold ring, “Taiba Najmat,” is kept there. It is said that its weight exceeds 64 kilograms.

If the project is approved, Dubai will once again add a new symbol to the name “gold capital” — and for tourists, this place will likely become one of the most photographed destinations.
