Ilham Aliyev, in an interview with journalists during the Munich Security Conference, stated that the Azerbaijani embassy in Kyiv had been attacked three times. He was asked about Russia's shelling of Ukraine, including the shelling of energy facilities belonging to Azerbaijani companies, but it was noted that the president did not give a clear answer to this part.
According to Aliyev, after the first attack, it could have been considered a "coincidence," therefore Baku also conveyed to the Russian side the exact coordinates of its diplomatic facilities in Ukraine. Nevertheless, due to the fact that two more strikes were recorded, he assessed such a situation as a deliberate attack on the diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan.
Against the backdrop of these events, the security of diplomatic facilities in Ukraine is becoming increasingly relevant: for example, in November 2025, Baku reportedly expressed official protest against Moscow, headed by Vladimir Putin, regarding damage to the territory of the Azerbaijani embassy in Kyiv. Now, Aliyev's emphasis on "three times" has made the issue even more political.
