For the first time since the beginning of the tense situation in the Middle East, White House President Donald Trump has appeared in front of cameras. His sensational live speech once again drew the world's attention to the clash between Tehran and Washington. The Zamin.uz publication presents the most important points of the US President's historic statement.
Trump, who until now had only responded via social media and phone, this time spoke face-to-face with journalists. In his speech, he explained the need for military operation by Iran's nuclear aspirations and the impending missile threat.
Why now?
Trump emphasized that Iran, ignoring the White House's serious warnings, was on the verge of creating weapons capable of reaching not only Europe but also the main regions of America. However, Reuters experts consider the president's claims to be somewhat exaggerated. According to intelligence data, Iran could have such potential by at least 2035.
4 US Strategic Plans in Iran
The President listed four priority tasks set for his administration:
- Breaking off missile power: Completely destroying Iran's offensive missile potential.
- Strike on the Navy: Destruction of the Islamic Republic's warships.
- Nuclear barrier: Completely closing Tehran's access to nuclear weapons.
- Financial block: Eliminating the arming and financing of various groups abroad.
Interestingly, The New York Times noted that Trump's speech did not mention "changing the regime." This may indicate that Washington's ultimate goals are still unclear.
How long will the war last?
Trump responded to questions about the duration of the operation in a peculiar way. "We had previously forecasted a period of 4-5 weeks, and now we are far ahead of the plan. If necessary, we will continue even longer. If someone thinks I'm bored, they're mistaken. We have the most powerful army in the world, and we will win anyway," he said.
The president also noted that a "large wave of attacks" against Iran is still ahead and will not hesitate to deploy ground troops if necessary.
