In an interview with "The New York Times", Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that official Kyiv had sent its drones and a team of experienced specialists to protect a US military base located in Jordan. This step was taken at the urgent request of Washington and marks a new stage in military cooperation between the parties. Zelensky noted that after the US requested assistance, Ukrainian specialists set off on the trip in just one day.
There are deep strategic reasons behind this cooperation. Russia has been making extensive use of Iranian "Shahed" strike drones in the war against Ukraine. As a result, the Ukrainian army has become the force with the richest experience in the world in countering Iranian technologies. Since the US and its allies in the Middle East are facing the same types of threats, Kyiv is trying to strengthen ties with Washington by offering its unique experience and technological capabilities.
Analysts believe that this process has dual significance for Ukraine. First, through this, Kyiv aims to strengthen its position in future peace negotiations mediated by the US and return the international community's attention to the war in Ukraine. Second, in exchange for this assistance, Ukraine is considering the possibility of receiving the modern air defense systems it needs. Although the escalation of the situation in the Middle East has changed the global political agenda, Zelensky is trying to use this situation for diplomatic gains.
At the same time, a certain coolness and tension remain in relations between Ukraine and the US. In particular, the recent critical remarks by US President Donald Trump about Zelensky leave the issue of trust between the two countries open. Nevertheless, improving relations with countries in the Middle East region and softening their ties with Russia has become one of the priority tasks of Ukrainian diplomacy. In the final analysis, this step by Kyiv is assessed not only as military aid, but also as an important diplomatic maneuver to maintain its position in the global political arena.
