German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, during a presentation in Berlin, described Russia as the greatest force threatening stability in Europe. According to him, Moscow is not only rearming but is also preparing for a direct military confrontation with NATO.
"The Kremlin views military force as a standard tool for achieving its interests. Their goal is to dismantle the North Atlantic Alliance by severing the links between Europe and the United States," Pistorius emphasized.
Army Personnel and Combat Readiness: A Force of 460,000
Under the new strategy, the structure of the German armed forces — the Bundeswehr — will be fundamentally revised. While 184,300 soldiers currently serve in the army, plans are in place to increase their number to at least 460,000 in the future. Such large-scale mobilization serves to create a force sufficient to repel potential Russian aggression.
Hybrid Warfare and "Information Superiority"
The German government is concerned that hybrid attacks are already being carried out against alliance members.
