Air Canada workers continue strike
In Canada, more than 10,000 flight attendants of Air Canada announced that they will continue their strike. They said they would not comply with the government’s return-to-work order, calling it “unconstitutional.”

The government had issued a binding arbitration decision to stop the strike. According to this decision, employees were supposed to return to work by Sunday noon. However, the union is demanding to resume negotiations and sign a fair contract.

Due to the strike, about 700 flights were canceled on Saturday, leaving more than 100,000 passengers stranded. Air Canada warned that some flights could also be canceled in the next 7–10 days.

The main dispute is over payment for flight attendants’ work on the ground when the plane is not flying. Currently, they are paid only when the plane starts moving.

This is the first strike by Air Canada employees since 1985. Experts say that if the conflict is not resolved soon, it may also negatively affect Canada’s economy.
