Alcohol interlocks expected to be installed in cars in Russia

In Russia, systems that block the engine from starting if alcohol vapors are detected in the driver's breath may be introduced. This measure is part of the implementation plan for the road safety strategy until 2030, approved by the government. This is reported by Ixbt.com .

Within the framework of the project, criteria for the use of devices known as "alcohol interlocks" will be established. The Ministry of Industry and Trade, Rosstandart, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Digital Development are working together on this initiative.

The strategy envisions developing systems not only to check for intoxication but also to assess the driver's general condition. Specifically, it is planned to introduce technologies that detect if a driver falls asleep or is distracted from the road.

Additionally, devices will be created for remote monitoring of vehicle speed, driving style, and compliance with work and rest schedules. The procedure for using these devices will be determined based on the operational risk of the vehicle type.
