Directors Byron Howard and Jared Bush, who directed the animated film "Zootopia-2," held a live discussion with franchise fans on the Chinese social network Weibo. During the conversation, the creators openly stated that work on the third part of the "Zootopia" world has already begun.
The directors emphasized that the premiere of the third part will not be postponed for nine years like the second film. Byron Howard commented on this: "I don't like to rush, but nine years is a very long time. We hope that the next film will be released much faster." These words inspired great hope among the fans.
Jared Bush noted that the team is currently actively working on various plot directions. According to him, the process of forming ideas usually takes 2-3 years, while the complete creation of an animated film takes 4-5 years. If all plans are implemented in the prescribed manner, "Zootopia-3" may be demonstrated around 2030.
At the same time, the creators did not rule out the possibility of birds appearing in the third part. They argued that the feather that caught the eye in the finale of the second part might be a hint at this very idea. When asked why cats and dogs don't exist in the animated world, the directors explained that this is due to the fact that there are no pets like humans in "Zootopia."
"There are dogs, but they are not the domestic dogs that the audience is accustomed to. As for horses, there are exceptions - we have both wild and domestic horses. We try to follow the rules, but sometimes we have to break them," said Jared Bush.
In addition, the creators did not rule out the possibility of creating separate sketches and spin-off projects dedicated to certain heroes. In particular, there is an idea to develop separate projects about the lazy Blitz, which is the audience's favorite. According to them, the world of "Zootopia" is very rich and vast, and it would be wrong to limit it only to full-length films.
