Hideo Kojima: Creativity Is My Way of Life

Legendary game designer Hideo Kojima spoke about his attitude toward creativity, saying he doesn’t see it as some unusual talent. In his view, coming up with new ideas is a daily need—an естественное состояние, like sleeping or eating. This was reported by playground.ru reports .
In an interview with Wired, Kojima answered fans’ questions and was asked how he understands creativity not in a professional sense, but in a human one. He admitted it’s hard to give a precise, universal definition, yet emphasized that for him creativity is neither a “special mood” nor a rare gift.
According to Kojima, the moment he wakes up he switches into thinking mode and doesn’t stop until he falls asleep. As soon as an idea appears, he immediately visualizes it, shapes it into a concept, and tries to turn it into practical work as quickly as possible.
Kojima added that this way of thinking isn’t unique to him and can be found in many creative people. In his opinion, creative thinking is a continuous process—like an inner mechanism that pushes a person forward.
He also said that if creativity were removed from his everyday life, it would become difficult to live at a normal pace. For Kojima, creativity is “built into” his personality, which is why he doesn’t treat it as a rare phenomenon deserving special admiration.
