Russia's external debt has surpassed $60 billion again after 20 years

Russia's external public debt exceeded $60 billion for the first time in 20 years. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing statistical data from the Russian Ministry of Finance.

As of February 1, 2026, the country's external debt amounted to $61.97 billion. This figure is approaching the January 2006 record of $76.5 billion.

According to the data, by 2007, Russia's external debt had fallen to 52 billion dollars, and over the past 19 years, it had not exceeded 60 billion dollars.

This situation is seen as a significant change against the backdrop of Russia's international economic relations, the impact of sanctions, and global financial flows. Financial experts are deeply analyzing the reasons for this growth, such factors as domestic and foreign bonds, and the state budget deficit.
