Many food products contain harmful substances that erode tooth enamel and promote cavities. Scientists compiled a list of foods that negatively affect dental health.
Fortified wine. This alcoholic beverage worsens enamel condition. U.S. experts found that tartaric acid in wine can break down tooth coatings. Additionally, wines made from dark grapes stain the enamel.
Carbonated drinks. Regular consumption disrupts the acid-alkaline balance. The high sugar content in these beverages creates an ideal environment for harmful bacteria to grow.
Weight-loss pills. Their effectiveness remains unproven. However, scientists confirmed these drugs harm gums and reduce saliva flow, which is essential for neutralizing acidity.
Bottled water. It may harm enamel due to a lack of fluoride. Unlike tap water, bottled water typically doesn't contain fluoride, which strengthens teeth and reduces sensitivity.
Citrus fruits. Juices from grapefruit, orange, lemon, and mandarin damage enamel. These drinks contain acids that erode teeth. Doctors recommend rinsing your mouth with water after consumption.
