According to him, deep cleaning of the ears with cotton swabs can cause serious damage to hearing. "When patients use cotton swabs, they can easily damage not only the ear canal, but also the most sensitive structure that receives sound waves - the eardrum," the doctor said.
Damage or perforation of the eardrum often leads to permanent hearing loss. In some patients, this condition is restored only with the help of a doctor, but for some, this injury can turn into permanent disability. It was noted that cotton swabs are, first of all, not a hygiene product, but a cosmetic product.
