Man gets 16 years for killing friend over $10,000 debt
A man in Bukhara’s Romitan district has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for brutally killing his acquaintance over an old debt, reports UPL.uz, citing the “Millar” program.
According to the investigation, in 2018 the defendant sold grapes worth $10,000 but never received the payment.

After eight years of failed attempts to collect the debt, he confronted the buyer again and, following a refusal, reacted in anger and desperation by killing him with an axe.

He then tried to cover up the crime by discarding the victim’s shoes and burying the body. Despite his efforts, the body was found 22 days later.

The court found the man guilty under Article 97, Part 2, Clauses "j" and "i" of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code, which covers intentional murder committed with extreme cruelty and to conceal another crime.
He was sentenced to 16 years in prison.
