New procedure: each taxi driver must work in his own region

In recent days, videos and messages circulating on social networks have caused a lot of discussion among taxi drivers. They allegedly stated that now every driver can operate a taxi in his region, and in Tashkent only owners of cars with license plate number 01 will be issued a license.

Navruz Ashurmatov, head of the press service of the Ministry of Transport, clarified this issue and noted that this rule is not new. According to Ashurmatov, the activity of route taxis was strictly regulated by Resolution No. 139, approved in 2011. According to the resolution, a driver can operate a taxi only in the territory indicated on his license card. However, this document has now lost its validity, and this requirement was reaffirmed by a new resolution adopted in 2025.

According to the representative of the ministry, now every taxi driver can operate in the territory indicated on his license and adjacent districts. For example, vehicles registered in Tashkent city and with state license plates starting with “01” can legally provide taxi services in Tashkent city, Tashkent region and Syrdarya region. The same rule applies in the regions - each regional driver can work in his own territory and adjacent regions.

This measure is aimed at making transport services in the country more systematic and transparent, improving passenger safety and the competitive environment. Now, instead of thinking “I will go to another region and work there”, drivers will have to provide services in their own place.

It should be noted that these changes may seem inconvenient to many drivers, but they are important from the point of view of modernizing the transport sector and protecting the interests of citizens.
