Uzbek man found dead among rocks in Bulgaria

The tragic incident that occurred in the Bulgarian city of Sozopol has caused deep grief among Uzbek students. According to reports, a 22-year-old young man, while trying to save a drowning Ukrainian girl in the sea, was swept away by a strong wave and was pulled underwater himself. His body became trapped between massive rocks, and at present, it is impossible to retrieve it.

The incident happened on August 7. According to our compatriot who spoke to Kun.uz, the tragedy occurred while the young man was relaxing in Sozopol with several friends. Among them were Uzbek, Kyrgyz, and Ukrainian youths.

— “At that moment, I was at work. My friends told me he had jumped into the water to help one of the drowning girls. However, a strong wave carried him away as well. It is possible he hit large rocks and lost consciousness,” he said.

Witnesses stated that the young man’s body was stuck between rocks, and the waves in that area were very strong. After the incident, nearby Uzbeks informed the police and rescue service. However, Bulgarian rescuers arrived only several hours later and said that under current conditions, it was impossible to retrieve the body.

— “We called the 911 rescue service, but they told us that it was impossible to conduct search operations at night. Together with our Kyrgyz brothers, we searched for 9 hours straight. In the end, his body became visible under the rocks, but the stones are very large and shifting, and the waves are strong. We cannot manage it,” said one of the young men involved in the search.

According to local reports, the body can only be retrieved once the sea calms down. At present, young Uzbek students are asking for help from the country’s leadership and diplomatic bodies. Kun.uz has already sent a request on this matter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

For reference, Uzbekistan has no embassy in Bulgaria, but there are diplomats responsible for relations with this country and for working with compatriots there. They have already been fully informed of the situation, and the issue is under review.

This incident once again reminds us that the most valuable thing in life is human courage and selflessness, but in the face of powerful nature, precautionary measures are extremely important.
