The risk of monkeypox in livestock is increasing in Kashkadarya

On social media, various reports have appeared about the spread of monkeypox among livestock in the Shahrisabz district of the Kashkadarya region. This situation has caused concern among the local population and requires an official statement from veterinary specialists, reported “Zamon.”

According to residents, the disease is mainly observed among large horned cattle, and their owners are experiencing economic losses. One of the residents, a 76-year-old local, noted that he had never seen such a case before and was initially surprised to notice small bumps on the animals.

“This disease, known among people as monkeypox, is being fought by many, but treatment does not always yield positive results. Necessary recommendations from specialists have not yet been received,” local livestock owners said.

Specialists from the Shahrisabz district’s Department of Veterinary and Livestock Development assess the situation as stable and noted that official information about the level of infection among livestock has not yet been published.

As reported by the department head, Sodiqjon Mamadiyov, “The disease, known among people as monkeypox, is actually nodular dermatitis. At present, there is no reason for panic or alarm. Vaccines are available, and vaccination across the region has reached nearly 90%. Necessary reserves have been created for more than 1.7 million livestock.”

The specialist emphasized that the disease mainly develops in mountainous areas due to bites from harmful insects and their transmission capacity. If treated in time, the disease can be cured in just 7 days, and there is no risk of infection for humans.

Additionally, specialists urge livestock owners and the population to be cautious, to identify signs of the disease promptly, and to actively participate in vaccination efforts. This is important for protecting the health of livestock and the economic interests of the population in the Kashkadarya region.
