Currently, air traffic between major cities of Uzbekistan is very limited. For example, there are no direct flights from Urgench to Fergana or from Samarkand to Nukus, which is a serious obstacle to domestic tourism and tourist movement. Currently, it is known that flights are operated only through Tashkent.
In order to expand opportunities in the field of tourism and increase the flow of foreign guests, it is planned to organize direct flights between the regions of the country. These ideas were put forward during a meeting at the Agency for Strategic Reforms with the head of the consulting company "Reformatics" Nika Gilauri, the agency's press service reported.
According to the data, a comprehensive strategy for the development of tourism in Uzbekistan until 2040 is being developed in cooperation with this company. In this process, experts carefully studied the state of hotels and tour operators in the country, transport infrastructure, visa policy issues, the tourism potential of various regions, and service facilities.
"Last year alone, more than 10 million foreign tourists visited our country. However, this figure is insufficient for historical monuments, cultural heritage, beautiful natural landscapes, and gastronomic opportunities. Therefore, the main goal is to increase the number of tourists to 20 million annually and attract high-income guests," the report says.
Reformatics specialists have proposed five priority areas in this direction: popularization of cultural and historical heritage, development of gastronomic tourism, expansion of luxury and elite tourism services, increasing the number of entertainment destinations, and introduction of innovative tourism routes. This, in turn, requires further promotion of Uzbekistan in the international arena through improving the quality of services, creating new tourism products, attracting foreign investment, and effective marketing.
As the Director of the Agency for Strategic Reforms noted, one of the most important factors influencing the arrival of tourists in the country is the transport sector. Along with increasing international flights, special emphasis was placed on the need to organize direct flights not only through the capital, but also between regions.
For this purpose, it was agreed that specialists of the consulting company "Reformatics" will visit each region and study additional opportunities together with local officials. This will serve to fully utilize the potential of the regions and ensure the practical results of the country's tourism strategy.
