In Jizzakh region’s Zafarobod district, two men were detained for attempting to extort money from an officer of the internal affairs department. According to reports, the incident began as an everyday situation but soon turned into a criminal act.
The regional police department reported that the officer had posted a message in a neighborhood Telegram group, looking for a taxi to bring his family home. Two locals — a 2007-born youth and a 1999-born man under probation supervision — saw the message and conspired to extort money from the officer.
They allegedly threatened to have him dismissed and demanded 15 million soums, later lowering it to 12 million soums, in exchange for not submitting certain voice recordings to the police leadership.
The officer immediately reported the incident to his superiors. As a result, the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Department of Personal Security and the Jizzakh regional police conducted an operation.
During the operation, the suspects were caught red-handed while receiving the demanded money. Both turned out to be residents of Zafarobod district.
Investigations revealed that earlier, on October 6 and 8, they had called the emergency number 102, claiming the officer had insulted them but failed to appear for questioning.
A criminal case has been opened against the 18- and 26-year-old suspects by the district prosecutor’s office. The investigation is ongoing.
Experts note that such incidents stem from irresponsible online behavior by citizens. Knowing and respecting the law remains everyone’s duty.
