The tragedy that shook Samarkand: a woman buried alive!

The tragic situation that occurred in the Kattakurgan district of the Samarkand region shocked the public. According to court documents, local citizen Ahtam Narziyev (name changed) buried his pregnant wife alive in a pit. A "Daryo" correspondent studied the court materials on this case.

According to reports, Narziyev, born in 1995, had previously been convicted three times and officially married E'tibor Elbekova in 2019. Three children were being raised in the family. However, the relationship between them was often accompanied by quarrels and violence.

In early April 2021, Ahtam entered the house intoxicated and caused another scandal. After hitting and injuring his wife, he took her to the backyard of the house, handed her a shovel, and ordered her to "dig deep." Although Etibor said she was pregnant, she was forced to dig two meters deep for about four hours after her husband's harsh threats.

After that, instead of getting his wife out, the husband threw dirt up to her neck and parked a "Zhiguli" car on top. The woman lost consciousness after being exhausted from lack of water and food for three days.

According to E'tibor, he found himself inside the house in a state of consciousness. But her husband beat her again and forced her to bury the pit again. He even strangled his dog with cellophane, stabbed it, and threatened, "If you don't do what I say, you will be in the same situation."

"I was silent out of fear. I couldn't tell anyone about this for my children," she said tearfully during her testimony in court.

Tired of the violence, the woman appealed to the district Department of Internal Affairs on February 2, 2025, after another quarrel. During the trial, he stated that he did not file a material claim and only requested measures to protect his life.

The accused admitted his guilt, expressed remorse, and asked not to be imprisoned. However, the court found him guilty under Article 138, Part 2, Clauses "a, b" and Article 112, Part 1 of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to 3 years and 3 months of imprisonment.

According to the verdict, the sentence will be served in a maximum-security colony. This case once again demonstrated the grave consequences of domestic violence.
