The procedure for criminal liability for minors has been simplified

The system of criminal liability for minors in Uzbekistan has been reviewed in a new order. In accordance with the Law No. ЗРУ-1092 of October 23 of this year, a number of important amendments and additions have been made to the Criminal Code. This was reported by the Ministry of Justice.

According to the new norm, if a person commits a crime before reaching the age of 18 and has fully served his sentence, he is considered not convicted. That is, in such a case, a record of his conviction will not be left in the database. This decision is aimed at facilitating the reintegration of adolescents into society in the future.

However, this relief does not apply to all cases. According to the law, if a person commits an especially grave crime or commits a new intentional crime before reaching the age of 18 after serving the sentence, then this benefit is not applied.

At the same time, the minimum term of punishment in the form of restriction of liberty and imprisonment for minors has been reduced. Previously, this period was set at six months, but according to the new law, it was reduced to one month.

Experts note that these changes are aimed at adapting criminal policy to the principles of humanism, preventing the exclusion of the younger generation from society, and providing them with the opportunity to reform.

Through the new procedure, when applying liability measures to young people, the courts will also take into account their psychological state, level of upbringing, and the reasons for committing the crime.

These legislative innovations will further strengthen the humanistic approach aimed at reforming and correcting the criminal system for minors.
