Why Electronic Prescriptions Are Necessary
Uzbekistan’s Minister of Health, Asilbek Khudoyorov, addressed members of parliament. This was reported by Upl.uz.

The minister responded to criticism regarding the introduction of electronic prescriptions for medications. According to Khudoyorov, the electronic prescription system was implemented to address issues related to the uncontrolled sale of medications.

“Electronic prescriptions have even started appearing in our dreams. This system was introduced to prevent the adverse effects of medications.

In 2025 alone, 24,000 cases were recorded where patients consumed medications without a doctor’s recommendation. Of these, 418 cases involved anaphylactic shock, while 7,017 cases were linked to medication poisoning.

In the capital alone, 741 such cases were documented. Additionally, there have been instances where some individuals attempted suicide using medications.

Throughout this year, 1,500 people attempted suicide using medications. The system helps reduce the risk of corruption between doctors and pharmaceutical companies.

Electronic prescriptions will only indicate the international non-proprietary name of the medicine. According to clinical protocols, an electronic prescription can include up to five medications.

If more than five medications are required, this must be justified by a medical council decision. Doctors will be subject to constant digital oversight.

The status of doctors will increase. Diagnoses and treatments must be determined by doctors, not pharmacists or pharmacies.

The electronic prescription system will create a database of information that was previously unavailable to the state,” said the minister.
