Man in Tashkent attempts to break ATM

A man in Tashkent attempted to damage an ATM
A man was detained in Chilonzor district while attempting to damage an ATM, reports Podrobno.uz.

The crime was allegedly motivated by a scam involving a fraudulent trader. The man had invested 10 million soums, borrowed on credit, into a suspicious scheme.

After losing the funds and being left with debts, he decided to resort to illegal means to recover the money. According to the press service of the Tashkent City Department of Internal Affairs, the incident occurred at night.

The man ensured no one was in the vicinity, approached the ATM, and began striking its exterior casing with a rock. He attempted to access the cash inside but only managed to damage the outer shell.

The inner safe of the ATM remained secure, and the perpetrator fled the scene empty-handed. “I trusted the trader and believed it was possible to increase the money.

I borrowed 10 million soums and lost it all. To repay my debts, I decided to do this.

I tried to open the ATM, but there was a large safe inside. Realizing I couldn’t open it, I gave up,” said the detained individual.

The ATM contained 552.4 million soums on the day of the incident. The total damage to the ATM was estimated at 30 million soums.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 169, Part 4 of the Criminal Code (theft in especially large amounts). The suspect has been detained as a preventive measure.

Currently, a preliminary investigation is underway.
