What events were held in prisons ahead of the New Year'tkazildi

Ahead of the New Year, correctional facilities across various regions of Uzbekistan held events aimed at helping inmates reintegrate into society, providing spiritual and moral education, and offering social support. Attention was also paid to ensuring their lawful rights and interests. This was reported by podrobno.uz.reports.

At Colony No. 6 under the Second Regional Directorate, a religious and educational meeting was organized for inmates as part of the “Prevention and Discipline” week. It was attended by the imam-khatib of Pap district, the imam of the cathedral mosque, and representatives of the “return to normal life” group. The discussion explained that religion calls a person to goodness, honesty, patience, and forgiveness, while Islam, honoring human dignity, emphasizes the importance of seeking knowledge, respecting parents, and preserving peace and harmony in society.

At the pre-trial detention center No. 6 within the same directorate, a commission meeting was held to assess inmates’ level of rehabilitation. Participants included the regional representative for Namangan region of the Oliy Majlis Commissioner for Human Rights, staff of the Youth Affairs Agency, and representatives of the Uychi district branch of the Republican Center for Spirituality. Each inmate assigned to maintenance work was reviewed individually, examining their attitude toward the offense, degree of remorse, interest in education, attitude to work, and desire to learn a profession.

At the end of the meeting, positive conclusions were issued for all candidates. Eight inmates who complied with internal rules and demonstrated exemplary behavior were recommended for incentives in connection with the New Year holidays.

In institutions of the Fourth Regional Directorate, particularly Colony No. 10, targeted social assistance was provided ahead of the holiday. The administration presented New Year gifts to inmates with disabilities, those who do not receive support from relatives, and those in difficult social circumstances.

Work with citizens’ appeals also continued at pre-trial detention center No. 6 under the Second Regional Directorate. The head of the facility met with relatives of those held in custody and those serving sentences in the maintenance block, discussing detention conditions, existing issues, and ways to resolve them. It was reported that three appeals were resolved positively.

During an off-site reception held at the same detention center, appeals submitted by detainees were also reviewed. With the participation of the head of the Uychi district civil registry office, the marriage of one of the suspects under investigation was officially registered, and the certificate was presented in a ceremonial manner.

Holiday events were also held at Settlement Colony No. 46 within the First Regional Directorate. Inmates who approached work responsibly and showed activity in educational programs were awarded letters of appreciation by the colony’s leadership.

It was noted that these events are part of comprehensive efforts aimed at resocializing inmates, strengthening their spiritual values, and ensuring respect for human rights in places of deprivation of liberty.
