In Fergana Region, an official who headed a customs-border post was caught while taking a bribe and punished by a court verdict. He is said to have promised to help illegally move 80 mobile phones across the state border. This was reported by podrobno.uz. reports .
According to the information, the suspect was detained while receiving $5,000. During the operation, the cash and the phones being brought in in violation of the rules were documented as physical evidence.
The Kuva District criminal court found the official guilty under Article 210 of the Criminal Code (taking a bribe) and sentenced him to 4 years in prison. He was also banned from holding any position in the customs authorities for 3 years.
It is noted that corruption-related cases in law enforcement agencies have been exposed more frequently in recent times. Earlier, reports said illegal land deals and bribery cases were uncovered in Khorezm and Fergana regions, including the detention of an internal affairs officer suspected of taking a $30,000 bribe. Criminal cases have been opened in all instances, and the investigation is ongoing.
