Suspects caught trying to put counterfeit dollars into circulation in two regions of Uzbekistan

In Tashkent’s Yunusabad district, two citizens were detained while trying to sell counterfeit banknotes worth $9.9 thousand to a third party for $5 thousand.

In Karakalpakstan’s Turtkul district, another citizen attempted to exchange $700 in counterfeit bills at a bank cash desk and was detained in the process.

The counterfeit currency was officially seized as material evidence. Criminal cases have been opened, and investigative actions are currently underway.

The Department urged citizens to use the national currency—the legal means of payment in Uzbekistan—for settlements. It noted that even if a person did not know a banknote was counterfeit, attempting to put it into circulation entails criminal liability.

Earlier, it was reported that a citizen was also detained in the capital’s Chilonzor district in a case related to selling a large amount of foreign currency.
