Why did the weather deteriorate in Tashkent? The forecasters explained the reason

Air quality in the capital has worsened again, and this situation has caused concern among many. According to Uzhydromet, the main reason for this pollution is the specific meteorological conditions in the weather. In particular, the influx of cold air into the territory since yesterday, the fact that there is almost no wind, and a sharp temperature difference have led to the accumulation of harmful particles in the air. Similar explanations are given in previous pollution waves.

It is reported that the wind in the city of Tashkent and Tashkent region is very weak or not felt at all. Currently, the air temperature at night is within +3...+5 degrees, and during the day it will rise to +11...+15 degrees. This sharp temperature difference formed the morning fog and temperature inversion. This, in other words, leads to the "trapping" of pollutants in the lower layer of air. External data on the weather in Tashkent today also indicate cool, almost windless, and foggy conditions.

In the current situation, the city remains under the influence of a relatively cool air mass, and precipitation is not expected. Together, these factors slowed down air exchange in the near-Earth layers of the atmosphere. As a result, pollutants do not rise upwards and accumulate more over the city. This led to an increase in the content of fine particulate matter - PM2.5 and PM10 in the air. External monitoring platforms also note an increase in PM2.5 and PM10 levels in Tashkent.

On some real-time platforms, the air quality of Tashkent today is assessed differently at different points: for example, IQAir indicated PM2.5 at 61 μg/m3, PM10 at 97.3 μg/m3, which means that air quality has reached an unhealthy level. However, at some individual stations, the indicators may be relatively better. This difference depends on the location and time of the monitoring points.

According to the forecasters, the expected precipitation starting tomorrow may mitigate the situation. That is, rain helps to "wash away" small particles in the air and cleanse the atmosphere. So, today's severe weather is not permanent, but for now, caution is necessary.

In short, the deterioration of air quality in Tashkent is mainly caused by lack of wind, fog, cold air inflow, and temperature inversion. The best news is that forecasters expect a slight ease of air due to precipitation in the coming days. Until now, it's not a bad idea to stay outdoors for a long time, especially in the morning.
