Improved communication culture required for police officers

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has expressed serious concern regarding the quality of police work and the conduct of officers across Uzbekistan. Official data reveals that over 148,000 complaints were filed last year concerning internal affairs, with a significant portion highlighting rude behavior by officers and poor investigation standards.

In response to these findings, the President has ordered officials to visit regions with the highest volume of complaints, including Denau, Urgut, Samarkand, Karshi, Namangan, Jizzakh, Fergana, and Chirchik. The objective is to engage directly with the public to understand their grievances and implement mandatory training programs for prevention inspectors and investigators to improve their professional ethics and communication skills.

The recurring issue of low-quality investigations has sparked a broader discussion about the need for structural reform. Many experts argue that the current situation necessitates the establishment of an independent Investigative Committee to ensure greater accountability and transparency within the legal system. As of March 23, 2026, the government remains focused on restoring public trust in law enforcement agencies through these targeted interventions.
