Man in Samarkand sentenced to 9.5 years for driving wife to suicide

Another serious case of domestic violence in the Samarkand region has concluded with a court verdict. In the city of Kattaqoʻrgʻon, Samarkand region, a man who systematically humiliated his wife and drove her into a severe psychological state has been sentenced to 9 years and 6 months in prison.
According to court documents, I.I., born in 1995, entered into a religious marriage (sharia marriage) in September 2023 with G.K., a resident of Andijan. Initially, there was peace in the family, and the couple even had a daughter. However, over time, the man began to hold the woman's past against her and systematically insulted her. This led to constant conflicts within the family.
On July 1, 2025, the woman expressed her desire to stop living with her husband and intended to leave for her parents' home with their child. This decision sparked another dispute. During the altercation, the woman attempted to throw herself out of a window and also inflicted self-harm.
A day later, on July 2, the conflict between the couple escalated again. The man resisted his wife's attempt to leave, beat her, and restricted her movement. Unable to endure the constant pressure and humiliation, the woman stated she would take her own life and attempted to wound herself with a knife.
According to investigation data, during the struggle over the knife, the blade pierced the woman's neck. As a result, she sustained severe injuries.
The case was reviewed by the Criminal Court, which found the man guilty under Article 103 of the Criminal Code (driving to suicide), sentencing him to 9 years and 6 months of imprisonment.
It is worth noting that similar incidents have been observed previously. Last year, the tragic death of a woman from Andijan who had married into a family in Samarkand also sparked widespread public discussion.
Experts emphasize the importance of not remaining indifferent to cases of domestic violence and the necessity of reporting such situations to the relevant authorities.
