The new president of the Italian championship Serie A, Ezio Simonelli, is putting forward a new idea in order to further increase the prestige of the league.
According to a reputable source - ESPN journalists, the head of the league raised the issue of holding championship matches with the participation of top division teams outside the country, that is, on US fields.
- We want to be the first league to organize national championship matches in the US. This will be a market in which we have great confidence. Currently, nine of the 20 teams in Serie A are owned by Americans and one by Canadians. We have other buyers, - said Ezio Simonelli.
The Italian Serie A is one of the most powerful leagues in world football. In particular, in the UEFA coefficient table, Serie A is listed in third place after the English and Spanish championships.
This competition has been organized since 1898. Initially, this competition was held on a regional scale, divided into groups. Since 1929, the competition format has changed to its current form.
The first team to be formed in Italy is Genoa. This team is the first champion of Serie A and has won the league three times in a row. Interestingly, Genoa is no stranger to Uzbek football fans. The captain of the Uzbek national team, Eldor Shomurodov, began his career in Italy precisely in the Genoa club.
The Uzbek player, who moved to Genoa from Rostov of the Russian Premier League in October 2020, scored eight goals in 31 matches and made himself known to Italian fans and experts.
Today, Genoa is also owned by Americans. In addition, Inter, Roma, Milan, Fiorentina, Atalanta, Bologna, Venezia, and Parma are also owned by American businessmen.
In particular, the Roma club, where Eldor Shomurodov plays, is financed by American businessmen - the Friedkin family.
It should be noted that if it is decided to hold Serie A matches on American grounds, all the owners of this club will fully support this idea. In fact, certain work is being carried out to organize Serie A matches in the United States, and this issue is expected to be resolved positively.
So, if the change takes place, Eldor Shomurodov will also be able to show his skills on American fields.
In this regard, it is worth recalling that on the eve of the summer transfer window, our legionnaire had the opportunity to move to the US championship. MLS side Atlanta United made a serious attempt to sign Eldor Shomurodov. However, then-Roma coach Daniele de Rossi decided to keep the Uzbek player.
Eldor Shomurodov has made 26 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring five goals and providing three assists. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
