Shatskikh on Behruz Asqarov: “He’s smart, has great potential — he just needs to play”
Advisor to the president of Pakhtakor FC, Maksim Shatskikh, shared his thoughts in an interview with a Kazakh outlet regarding Uzbek midfielder Behruz Asqarov, who currently plays for Turon in the Kazakhstan Pro League.

What did Asqarov do in the matches against Kyzyljar and Atyrau?
The 22-year-old player:
  • Came off the bench against Kyzyljar and recorded 1 goal and 1 assist;
  • Also provided an assist in the Kazakhstan Cup match against Atyrau.

His performances have drawn attention not only in Kazakhstan, but also in Uzbekistan.

Some are calling him “the next Husanov”...
But Shatskikh disagrees with that comparison:
“Husanov and Asqarov are completely different players. They differ in position, physicality, and technique. Behruz is a disciplined and talented player. He didn’t play much for Pakhtakor because competition was tough, and he was often away with the national team.”

He was trusted in various positions
Shatskikh said he tested Asqarov not only in midfield but also in different defensive roles:
“I played him in the holding role, and as a left and right back. He fulfilled all tasks with quality.”

“Football is a game of intelligence. He just needs more game time”
“Football is primarily a game of the mind. Behruz has that. He has great potential. Maybe he won’t go straight to Manchester City, but he is capable of playing for a strong team.”

Brief info about Asqarov:
  • He moved on loan from Pakhtakor to Kazakhstan’s Turon during the winter window;
  • Played for Uzbekistan’s youth and age-category national teams;
  • Currently a key player in the U-23 national team.
