The rapid rise of Uzbekistan national team center-back Abdukodir Khusanov to playing in two of Europe’s “top-5” leagues has become a huge source of motivation not only for football analysts but also for thousands of young players.
Right after him, another talented footballer — Behruz Asqarov — has started gaining attention in football circles.
Hasanov — from Belarus through France to England
In 2022, Abdukodir Khusanov signed his first professional contract with Belarusian club “Energetik-BGU”. A year later, in summer 2023, he moved to France’s vice-champion — “Lens”. Thus, he became the first Uzbek footballer to play in the French top league.
Within just half a season, he impressed enough to earn a transfer to one of the world’s strongest clubs — “Manchester City” — by 2024. Being named “Man City” player of the month in February highlights his outstanding performance.
Asqarov — from “Pakhtakor” to Kazakhstan, aiming for Europe
22-year-old Behruz Asqarov is a graduate of “Pakhtakor” and played 39 matches for the club, scoring one goal and providing one assist. In the 2025 season, he decided to take the next step by joining Kazakhstan’s “Turan” on loan.
Being a versatile player, he started contributing from his first four matches — opening his goals and assists tally. In his fifth appearance during the Kazakhstan Cup, he added another assist to his record.
International competitions — “scout showcase”
In 2023, Abdukodir Khusanov attracted scouts from abroad by performing in the AFC U-20 Asian Cup and the FIFA U-20 World Cup. What about Behruz? He has a similar opportunity!
Asqarov has played 4 matches for the U-19 team and 14 matches for the U-20 team in major tournaments. That reflects his growing international experience.
“Guiding hand”: the Ulugbek Asanboev factor
A key figure behind Khusanov’s transfer was coach Ulugbek Asanboev. He is now mentoring Behruz Asqarov too. This coach is known for his experience in preparing players for European football.
A midfielder who reads the game
Asqarov is a left-footed, technically skilled player who remains composed under pressure. He sees the field well and can play as a central midfielder, center-back, right-winger, or in a defensive role.
Strong goal — strong result
Inspired by Khusanov’s path, Behruz Asqarov has set his sights on becoming a key player for Uzbekistan’s national team and helping the squad on their road to the 2026 World Cup.
Youth, talent, and the right guidance — this generation is writing a new chapter in Uzbek football.
