In a crucial 35th-round match of the Italian championship, Roma hosted Fiorentina and once again secured a win, making another big step toward qualifying for the Champions League.
Once again, one of the key figures was the captain of the Uzbekistan national team, Eldor Shomurodov. Near the end of the first half, our compatriot, despite being in a difficult situation in the penalty box, demonstrated his skill and delivered a precise header pass to his Ukrainian teammate Artem Dovbyk. Fiorentina’s goalkeeper David De Gea had no chance to stop the shot.
This goal remained the only one in the match and brought three crucial points to the Wolves.
It is worth noting that in the previous round, Eldor also assisted the only and decisive goal against Inter. The Uzbek striker is proving to be a game-changer in important moments and has already won the hearts of Roma fans.
Eldor’s pre-match interview also drew attention. He mentioned that playing alongside Artem Dovbyk makes him feel comfortable — and he backed that up on the pitch.
After the match, Shomurodov spoke with SKY and DAZN reporters. Here is the full interview:
— Do you like Roma’s high-tempo playing style?
— Yes, it's a style that suits us and brings us joy. No matter who we face, our only goal is to win.
— Does playing with two central forwards trouble the opponents more?
— I don't think so. We try to stay calm and composed in every situation. Artem and I understand each other well on the pitch and always communicate. But it doesn't matter who we play with — we’re always ready.
— How would you describe your partnership with Dovbyk?
— We are both natural strikers. We understand how to move and act on the pitch. That makes our job a lot easier.
— Do you now have a kind of wordless understanding on the field?
— Yes, no problem there — we can read each other with just a look.
— What do you think is the main secret behind Roma’s success this season?
— If I say it, it won’t be a secret anymore (laughs). I think everything is in your own hands. Give everything on the pitch, and the rest will follow. That’s Roma’s formula.
— What’s your opinion about head coach Claudio Ranieri?
— Ranieri is a great person and a strong coach. I understand his expectations and do my best to fulfill them on the field.
To recall, Eldor Shomurodov has appeared in 34 matches this season across Serie A, the Coppa Italia, and the Europa League, scoring 7 goals and providing 5 assists.
Roma is now preparing for decisive season-ending matches against Atalanta, Milan, and Torino. Eldor is expected to once again play a key role. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
